Research progress in application of ionic liquids as mobile phase additives in chromatographic analysis of natural products*

Abstract

Ionic liquids (ILs), which are usually in the liquid form at room temperature, are salts composed entirely of organic cations and various anions. ILs possess fascinating properties such as low volatility, tunable viscosity, strong solvency and electrolytic conductivity, which make ILs widely applicable in analytical chemistry. This review summarized the progress in applications of ionic liquids in chromatographic analysis of natural pro ducts. The mechanism and separation efficiency of ionic liquid were introduced. The related journal articles were collected from different databases, and the collected data was classified based on different types natural products. Literatures reflect that ILs have been applied in the chromatographic analysis of alkaloids, organic acids, flavonoids, and other natural products. Among them, ILs are most widely used in the chromatographic analysis of alkaloids. Through the study of this paper, in order to provide reference for the application of ionic liquids in the chromatographic analysis of natural products.
