Research progress on the application of breath analysis technology in the detection of illicit drugs*

Abstract

Exhalation as a biological test material to illicit drugs is the current research focus of drug identification and screening. In this paper, firstly, we introduced the basic knowledge of exhalation and the application of exhalation in drug analysis; secondly, it gave a detailed statement of the various steps of breath detection, including sample collection, pretreatment, analysis methods and several research examples of illicit drugs. Then, the technology of analyzing illicit drugs by breath was summarized and prospected. This paper reviewed international studies on breath detection of illicit drugs, in order to provide more references for future domestic studies.
